It has been a week since retinal displacement surgery on my right eye. Everything is still a blur. My eye throbs, waters, and has lost focus. My left eye sight is partially veiled by a grey curtain, beneath which it looks like Vaseline has been smeared, this is a result of the retinal detachment (yet to be operated on). My right eye remains sensitive to light, blood shot, and swollen. I've spent a week in bed while the world went on without me. I've been listening to audio books and pod casts, but I still feel at a loss, as I cannot read or craft. It will be some weeks before I can again. Tomorrow I have my second check up at the hospital, and the second surgery should booked then also.
Thank goodness for family, friends, and audio books (Fiona had to type this for me).

I can't imagine having to have surgery on my eyes. Sounds very painful! Rest up and I hope it's all healed up soon, xx
ReplyDeleteI hope that all goes well with your check up and your second surgery.
ReplyDeleteOh you poor thing! That all sounds very uncomfortable. I hope you start getting better soon. Rest up xo
ReplyDeleteThinking of you Christina. Sounds very uncomfortable and I feel you pain about not being able to craft. Being ill is one thing but not being able to do anything with your hands while you're ill must be so frustrating. Sending you happy healing vibes and all the best for your recovery. Mel x
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to write this and thank you for writing the post about getting your eyes checked if you have an issue. I had just got new glasses and the optometerist told me that I had to go back and get the drops in my eyes so he could have a better look. I was going to leave it a little while but after you post i decided not too.. I had my appointment and he found a cyst in the right eye and also thinks that my retina may be separating. So I have an appointment with an eye specialist tomorrow. and I have constant headaches and constant floaters, which I never really payed too much attention to before you said something..
ReplyDeleteSo thank you for telling us about your eye problems and sharing your story with us. I hope your on the mend and you can craft very soon! I love your knitting posts and will miss seeing them as you get better xx
My goodness! I hope your appointment with the specialist goes well tomorrow. So glad to hear that you stuck around and that Christina may have had something positive to do with that. Best wishes, Christina's sister, Fiona.
DeleteAll the best with your recovery. It must be frustrating. You're lucky to have such good support.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, yay to Fiona for being your hands! Secondly, you're half way there now soon it will all be over & you'll be back to seeing better than ever.
ReplyDeleteI understand the weepy eye bit, when I was a teenager a cat scratched my retina - ouch. My eye watered & cringed for weeks... it was awful but it got better (thank god!) - so frustrating, I wished it was like a set of false teeth that I could have taken out & sat next to the bed & then put back in when all was well again!
Christina might kill me when she can actually see the photograph of her I posted with this blog post. But I thought it captured well the just home from surgery look: tired, but relieved.
DeleteOuch about the cat scratching your eye!

ReplyDeleteHay veces, en que nuestro cuerpo nos hace parar porque lo necesitamos y no somos conscientes de ello y por eso vienen enfermedades que nos hacen parar el tiempo necesario.

Hang in there Christina.

You must be going crazy not being able to do your favourite things.
I can picture you now when you've had a full recovery, knitting and reading like a woman possessed. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry to hear about your eyes. I have floaters in one of my eyes and worry about this happening to me. The talking books sound like a great idea. I think I would go insane if I could not read, do craft or watch TV. Our sight is so valuable. I hope the surgeries are successful and your recovery as quick as possible.
ReplyDeleteSending prayers for healing. I had floaters come on suddenly with flashes and didn't realize how serious it could be. Went to the eye doctor and he explained what it could mean. I was lucky this time but go every six months now for checkups. Wishing the best for you.
ReplyDeleteHi Christina...I think of you often. I'm glad you've been throught the first surgery alright, I hope the second is successful too and you can get on with the job of recovery for both. I am glad you have such a supportive family as I can't even imagine how difficult it would be for you at this time.
ReplyDeleteLots and lots of hugs...just for you....ooooooooo!
Oh no, I didn't realise it took so long to recover from, you poor thing! No reading or crafting. Yes, thank goodness for audio books indeed. Hope the checkup went well and that the pain eases up soon and a bit of focus returns quick smart!
