Yarn Along

While pregnant with Emerson, and in the weeks after her birth, I knitted a simple striped garter stitch blanket for her. For the past year it has gone everywhere with us. Unfortunately that dear blanket came to a sad end after our disastrous camping trip (two words - tummy bug.) Yes, that lovely little blanket managed to get thrown in the washing machine with the acrylic blankets. Unlike the acrylic blankets, it turned to felt. I was horrified when I pulled it out the machine. But what is a knitter to do, except knit another blanket?

Thus I had in mind to knit Emerson a new blanket for her first birthday. I ordered the wool and already had the pattern, before I found out about my naughty eyes and the required surgery. Now, two weeks post surgery, I have been working on it little by little for the past week as my eye allows, hoping to have it finished by the 27th. There will be a wrapped book (once I choose the perfect one) and this beautiful hand knit bonnet by Greer at Typically Red as well. Surely no one will notice the missing blanket should it not be ready?

While my eyes can not bear to read for very long yet, I am listening to 'The Happiness Project' on audio book, read by the author Gretchen Rubin. Once again, thank goodness for audio books!

And you? What are you reading and knitting?

  1. Blanket #2 looks beautiful! Emerson is one lucky little girl to have such a talented Mum. Glad you are gradually feeling better, eye surgery isn't fun for someone as creative as you. As for my knitting, I am on the prowl for a mid weight cardi for Autumn wearing...J

  4. I love that pattern! It is going to be a gorgeous blanket. Glad to hear you are starting to get a bit better. I am knitting a cardigan at the moment albeit very slowly. I've been reading the second last book in the vampire academy series that I borrowed from my niece. I always get sucked in my teenage books.

  5. That is going to be a gorgeous blanket! I've also made the mistake of throwing a wool knit blanket in with the acrylic ones and had it felt on me! :-( It feels like such a waste of effort when it happens!
I've got way too many things on the needles at the moment! A cardigan for me (Miette by Andi Satterlund), socks for my Dad, a blanket for my newest niece and I want to start a pirate top for my little man who turns 1 on the 1st of March (he's very close in age to Emerson)!I think the top for my son is going to take priority along with the doll I'm going to sew for him

  6. So glad to see that you are on the mend. I love the colour you have chosen for Emerson's blanket and the pattern is beautiful. At the moment I'm learning crochet, so much easier then I thought and I'm well on the way to a granny square cushion cover. Nothing on the needles yet but plans for some jumpers and vests for the boys and a cowl for me.
I just got a copy of the Happiness Project yesterday, really keen to get a start on it, when the boys let me. I think I might need to try audio books, I rarely seem to have my hands free to sit and read.

  7. Gorgeous blanket pattern, and what a beautiful colour. Actually I really wish the pattern was available for sale. Perhaps I'll ask. Hope the knitting means you're on the mend :)

  8. The blanket is just gorgeous! And don't even talk to me about handknits getting chucked in the washing machine. It's happened a few too many times here! So glad you love the bonnet. x

  9. That is going to be a seriously lovely blanket. Looks like you will finish if you can keep going at this rate :-) I'm still reading The Snow Child which I started while in hospital having the baby in November. It's taking so long because I can't stop knitting and crocheting. I'm starting on a little scarf and thanks to you actually wound the skein into a ball before casting on - thank you!!!! Hope the eyes continue to heal well x
